I bragged about it and now it's launched and going on strong!  I am presenting you my adopted Italian city.. on Cesenatico Web TV! <3<3<3

Sorry, I missed some days, but it was a very busy period, between my mami coming to visit from Canada (super happy about that), my Birthday (will post pics soon of my super cake), work and moving for the summer to Cesenatico, a little town on Adriatic Coast, I left voyage baggage a bit behind!!  However, I am back and I will keep you posted on life here on Adriatic Coast!! :P

Vi sono mancata?!  Scusate, ma è stato un periodo impegantico tra l'arrivo della mamma (si, si è qua a trovarmi dal Canada e sono felicissima), lavoro, mio compleanno (si, mi sono invecchiata di un'altro anno) e trasloco al mare a Cesenatico, ho un pò trascurato il voyagebaggage! Comunque, sono tornata e tutta l'estate sarò al mare per raccontarvi un pò della vita qui sulla Costa Adriatica! :P

The beach here is actually not so great (we have no white sand or crystal clear waters), but I still love the atmosphere - the smell of  the sea, the boiling hot sand and inviting blue-green water, the playa music and group workouts, the colourful bathing suits and all the happy faces (have you noticed how people become lazily happy when they are on the beach)!!

Chi è stato a Cesenatico, lo sa che il mare qua non è bellissimo (niente sabbia bianca o acqua cristallina), ma io adoro la sua atmosfera di mare con la sabbia bollente e acqua fresca, la musica e ginnastica in spiaggia, i costumi coloratissimi, le faccie felici, le mangiate di pesce, il gelato e mercatini serali!!

Ever since I can remember, I always wanted to live somewhere warm and by the beach (of course I was born in Ukraine and grew up in Canada, both cold countries with barely any summer months).  As a kid, I vividly remember my summer vacations by the sea, I would spend all day in the water until my fingers would get all wrinkly and purple from the cold, and my teeth would be grinding (the water in Black sea only gets so warm), but I still would refuse to get out!  It was soooo much fun!!

Da quando ero bambina amavo il mare e sognavo di vivere in un paese caldo (essendo nata in Ucraina e cresciuta in Canada di mesi caldi me ne godevo pochi).   Mi ricordo perfettamente le vacanze estive, che passavo sul mare Nero e miei bagni infiniti!  Erano fantastiche!!

I think it's kind of magical how the sea attracts us all, boys and girls, young and old, black and white!  Sea is like a giant blue magnet that pulls us all in, it's force is undeniable and I love it! <3<3<3

Ora che vivo in Italia, amo tutto di questo paese, la natura, il cibo, l'architettura, l'arte, l'usanze ed ovviamente il MARE!!  Questa magica calamite gigante che attrae gente di tutte le età, razze e culture, rendendoli felici e spensierati (avete mai osservato come sono pigramente felici le persone in spiaggia)!   La sua forza ci cattura e non molla più, perchè chi ha vissuto al mare, vuole stare al mare per sempre ed io voglio invecchiare al mare, passeggiando nelle sue acque con le mie amiche, proprio come queste tenere signore!  <3<3<3

Road trip in Umbria, exploring Gubbio, a beautiful medival city in the land of wine, cheeses and olive oil!

The Italian city of Gubbio, is considered one of the most beautiful medival cities in the world! Getting up to Duomo Cathedral and Palazzo Ducale is quite a workout, but a pleasant one, because the narrow stone streets are full of little stores to stop and visit! However, for those super lazy, there are elevators that take you all the way to the top, practically inside the Cathedral! ;)

La cittadina umbra di Gubbio e’ considerata una delle piu’ belle citta’ medievali del mondo. Arrivare in cima fino alla Cattedrale Duomo e Palazzo Ducale e’ quasi un’allenamento di walking, anche se uno piacevole, considerando che le strette viuzze della citta’ sono pieni di negozietti, bar e gelaterie! In ogni modo per i piu’ pigri c’e’ sempre l’ascensore, che porta fino a cima, praticamente dentro la Cattedrale!  ; )

Exploring Umbria, a beautiful region right in the heart of Italy, it's world famous for wines, cheeses and olive oil! Am I making you hungry already?! ;)   Well, Umbria can completely satisfy all your senses.  Travelling through green hills filled with wineries, patchworks of farm fields and pastures with farm animals, will take you back in time and place, where the food was real and genuine.  Make sure to try the 'pecorino cheese' and 'porchetta'. The medieval settlements, like the little town of Todi, where beautiful churches meet modern artisans, will let you savour, on the other hand, plenty of culture and history!

 
Esplorando l'Umbria, la regione italiana famosa per i suoi vini, formaggi ed olio d’oliva!  Vi sta già venendo la fame?! ;)  L'Umbria può completamente soddisfare tutti i vostri sensi.  Viaggiando per le dolci colline verdi della regione si può godere i paesaggi di vignette,campi colticati ed animali in pascoli, ritrovando la natura e cibi genuini, come il buonissimo formaggio 'pecorino' o la 'porchetta'.  Arrivando alle cittadine medievali, come Todi, si può apprezzare la storia ed arte attraverso le maestose Chiese con le loro vedute e vari prodotti artigianali del posto!

Make sure to visit the Temple of Santa Maria della Consolazione, found just outside the city's walls and enjoy the breath-taking views!  This internationally acclaimed rinascence structure, took almost a century to built 1508-1606, at first it may seam some-what familiar, as it curiously reseambles the Saint Peter's in Rome, build in the same greek-cross pattern!  The interior, on the other hand is quite simple, but incredibly majestic, be a judge for yourself and let me know!

Assicuratevi di visitare il Tempio di Santa Maria della Consolazione,che si trova giusto fuori le mura della città medievale!  Questa struttura rinascimentale, che ha impegnato quasi 100 anni per completare, al primo sguardo può apparire molto familiare, perchè assomiglia alla Basilica di San Pietro a Roma, costruita anch'essa a croce greca.  L'interno della Chiesa è molto più semplice, ma maestoso e custodisce delle statue degli Apostoli della scuola dello Scalza e un affresco della "Maestà"!

The Temple of San Fortunato was visited by Papa Innocenzo III already in 1198, but in 1292 the structure started its re-modelling works from original Romantic style into Gothic, that took over 130 years and by 1436 only were partially completed!  

Sicuramente il Tempio di San Fortunato; era visitato nel 1198 da Papa Innocenzo III, venuto a consacrare un altare dedicato a San Cassiano.  In 1292 la costruzione era trasformata dallo stile Romanico a quello Gotico, seguendo la moda del tempo con i lavori duravano per quasi 130 anni e solo verso la prima metà del 400 (1436) era terminata la parte inferiore della facciata. La chiesa dedicata al patrono della città, è caratterizzata da una facciata incompiuta, opera di Giovanni Santuccio da Fiorenzuola di Spoleto, con un grande portale centrale, due laterali, ed un campanile (1460) sormontato da una cuspide piramidale. http://www.umbriaearte.it/chiese_todi.htm

Santa Maria Assunta is situated in Piazza del Popolo di Todi (defined as one of the most beautiful Piazzas in Italy).  The Cathedral was build in XI century on old Church ruins, then it was again transformed in XIII-XV centuries and modified several times!  Its frontal facade is caracterized by a long staircase and three portals with three rose windows (round colorful windows, the middle one is also the biggest and dates back to 1520).  This round colorful window looks beautiful from inside with a giant XVI century fresco of 'Universal Judgement' by Ferraù of Faenza surrounding it and making the Cathedral truly special!

Santa Maria Assunta situata in piazza del Popolo di Todi (definita una delle più belle piazze d'Italia), la Cattedrale fu edificata nell' XI secolo sui resti della precedente chiesa, fu rifatta quasi completamente nei secoli XIII-XV; modificata all'interno nel XVI secolo fu nuovamente trasformata nella metà del XIX secolo e restaurata nel 1953-1958. La facciata è caratterizzata da una lunga scalinata, da tre portali, tre rosoni (il grande rosone centrale del 1520 è bellissimo) e il campanile del XIII secolo. L'interno a tre navate con pianta a croce latina ha una quarta navata costruita nel XIV secolo. La Chiesa custodisce prestigiose opere d'arte tra le quali un "Giudizio Universale" di Ferraù di Faenza della fine del XVI secolo, assolutamente da non perdere e due tavole dello Spagna, due statue di Giovanni Pisano e numerose altre opere, e vetrate!

Investing in Art for great cause in Cesena!

My aunt called me the other day inviting me to a Benefit Art Show organized by A.R.R.T. ONLUS (Association of Romagna for Cancer Research), she is a Radiologist and collaborates with the organization by doing breast cancer screening.   As an art lover and considering the cause, I was happy to come out for the opening! 
The exhibion was organized in the centre of Cesena and it contained about 80 different operas from more or less established local artists, who each donated at least one piece to be auctioned for the cause.  
There is a great variety of art styles and media, ranging from the greatly loved comical Romano Buratti www.romanoburatti.it, to still life by Ugo Pasini www.ugopasini.it and Vittorio Berardi www.vittorioberardi.it, or tipografical works by Mario Bertozzi, or even abstracts by Anna Maria Nanni www.amnanni.it.  The paintings vary in sizes and prices, that go anywhere from €90 - €1200, there is a piece for every taste
and wallet.  Consequently, everybody can take home a piece of contemporary art, make a good investment for their money and contribute to a great cause, as all the money earned in the auction will go to the Oncology Prevention Initiaves, which is great! There should be more similar initiatives, so we can all enjoy art, while making future investments and contributing to good causes!

L'atro giorno mi ha chiamato la mia zia, invitandomi alla mostra d'arte a scopo benefico organizzata da A.R.R.T. ONLUS (L'Associazione Romagnola Ricerca Tumori Onlus).  Come l'amante d'arte e volendo scoprire di più sugli artisti locali non mi sono fatta pregare, per di più lo scopo della mostra era ricavare i fondi per i Progetti di Prevenzione Oncologica!

La mostra durerà dal Sabato, 22 Marzo fino Domenica, 30 Marzo,  presso 'Endas Sala Severini' in Corso Mazzini 46 al centro di Cesena, vicinissimo a Duomo!  L'entrata è gratuita e si possono ammirare attorno 80 opere di artisti locali, più o meno famosi.  Ognuno di questi ha donato uno o più pezzi per l'asta e veramente ce ne sono per tutti i gusti: da amatissimo pittore comico Romano Buratti www.romanoburatti.it, alla natura morta di Ugo Pasini www.ugopasini.it e Vittorio Berardi www.vittorioberardi.it, da litografie di Mario Bertozzi, ai astratti di Anna Maria Nanni www.amnanni.it.

 I prezzi variano da € 90 a € 1200, capendo i tempi difficili che scorrono, ma la gioia di portarsi a casa un'opera d'arte, investendo in futuro e contribuendo alla prevenzione del cancro, mi sembrano proprio dei gran buoni motivi!   Io ho già scelto il mia opera da acquistare, ma per ora è un segreto!! ;)

'Sea of Wool' in Cesenatico, Italy! A beautiful surprise for us all to enjoy!

This was a beautiful surprise I discovered on the Women’s Day in Cesenatico, a little sea town on the Italian Adriatic Coast.  The 'Bridge Garibaldi' in the centre of old town was covered by coloured knitting!!   It took 40 kg of wool thread and 70 women from ‘Centro Donna’ of Cesenatico, guided by local Patrizia Budini, to create this fantastic ‘Sea of Wool' in time for the International Women's Day.  Thank you all ladies for this beautiful surprise, I already came back twice to enjoy it!

Questa bellissima sorpresa ho scoperto la sera della Festa della Donna a Cesenatico, dove il 'Ponte Garibaldi' era completamente coperto di lana colorata!  Ci sono voluti 40 kg di lana e 70 donne del ‘Centro Donna di Cesenatico’ a lavorare sotto la guida di Patrizia Budini, per completare il capolavoro ‘Un Mare di Lana’ in tempo per la Festa della Donna.  Grazie tante signore per la bellissima sorpresa, io personalmente sono già tornata più volte per godermela ed ogni volta mi mette una grande allegria!

 

Venetian Carnival - Salutiamo il Carnevale!

The Carnival of Venice is a magical time, that according to its legend, goes back in history to the celebration of the victory by 'Serenissima Repubblica' against the Patriarch of Aquileia, in 1162! The immense joy for that victory turned into a happy dance, that reunited people in San Marco Square and started the annual festival!

La legenda dice, che il magico Carnevale di Venezia, era cominciato con la vittoria di 'Serenissima Repubblica' contro il Patriarca di Aquileia, in lontano 1162!  L'immensa gioia della celebrazione aveva portato tutta la gente in Piazza San Marco per le danze e festeggiamenti, dando inizio alla tradizionale festa annuale!

The Carnival of Venice had reached its ultimate heights in the XXVII century, when the baroque carnival was a way to reconfirm the prestigious image of Venice in the world.  However, it also had encountered its share of difficulties and was banned by Napoleon at the end of the XXVIII century. Its organization was resumed and brought to its original splendour only in 1979. Today, this magnificent festivity, held annually up to the Mardi Gras (the day before Ash Wednesday, forty days before Easter) brings thousands of tourists to Venice, to celebrate along with the Venetians and enjoy the events, fire-works, music and obviously the parties in masks! http://en.venezia.net/venice-carnival.html

Il Carnevale di Venezia aveva raggiunto il suo grande splendore in XXVII sec., confermando la prestigiosissima posizione di Venezia in quell'epoca. The beautiful Venetian masks were always the signature feature of the Carnival of Venice. Traditionally, these were rather simple in design, but had a strong symbolic and practical function! All people in Venice were allowed to wear masks between the festival of Santo Stefano (December 26) and the start of the carnival season; during that period, behind those masks the social differences were temporarily abolished and the Saint Mark Square, along with other parts of town became vast stages for celebration and entertainment!
In the past, Venetian masks were made of leather, porcelain or Murano glass. Today, most of the masks are made of 'gesso', then hand-painted and decorated with gold leaf, natural feathers and gems.

 
Le bellissime maschere sono sempre state un simbolo fortemente legato al Carnevale di Venezia.  Tradizionalmente, queste erano molto semplici in design, ma piene di significato e funzionalità!  Siccome tutte le persone a Venezia, avevano il permesso di indossare una maschera dal Santo Stefano al Martedi Grasso; durante quel periodo, dietro quelle maschere, scomparivano anche le differenze sociali, permettendo a tutte le persone di riunirsi in festeggiamenti in Piazza San Marco o in altri angoli della città!
In passato, le maschere Veneziane erano fatte di pelle, porcelana o anche vetro Murano.  Oggi, la maggior parte di maschere sono fatte in gesso e poi dipinte, e decorate a mano con la foglia d'oro, piume e pietre preziose!

Under the Tuscan Sun: Day 2 - Pienza and Bagno Vignoni!

On the second day of our trip, right after a breakfast with warm nutella croissant and cappuccino,we went for a city stroll and some souvenir shopping!  Pienza is big on artisan products like natural creams and soaps www.botteghe-aperte.com and body care, as well as beautiful artisan ceramics (Il Salotto is a great store to visit on Corso Il Rossellino, 25 in Pienza)!

Il secondo giorno, subito dopo la colazione con il cornetto caldo alla nutella ed il cappuccio, siamo andati a fare una passeggiata in centro di Pienza e fare un pò di shopping.  Questa città è rinomata per i prodotti naturali per la cura del corpo, come le saponette www.botteghe-aperte.com e varie creme (anche la famosissima Bottega Verde www.bottegaverde.it è nata qui), inoltre va molto l'artigianato in ceramica (Il Salotto è negozietto speciale da visitare in Corso Il Rossellino, 25)!

In the afternoon, I wanted to go to HOT SPRINGS in Bagno Vignoni; a world-famous, ancient Roman baths!  The place was only few kilometers away from Pienza and I had heard that it was fantastic!

Nel pomeriggio, io volevo assolutamente andare alle terme di Bagno Vignoni, antichissimi bagni Romani!! Il posto era solo pochi chilometri da Pienza e avevo sentito che era fantastico!

We had lunch in the centre of Bagno Vignoni and went on to visit the central pool in Piazza delle Sorgenti, a place where once Sant Catherine and antique Romans bathed!  Unexpectantly, while taking a walk, about 200 meters from the central city Piazza, we accidentally stumbled upon something incredible and almost surreal, streams of hot water rushing through the ancient ruins and down a magnificent hill!!  People were gathered there to enjoy the sunshine, while bathing their feet in the warm thermal water and breething in the landscape!!  The air was almost magical, calm and filled you with happiness!!

Avevamo pranzato al centro di Bagno Vignoni e  fatto un giretto per vedere l’antica vasca dei Romani in Piazza delle Sorgenti, dove una volta faccevano il bagno la Santa Caterina e Lorenzo il Magnifico!  Poi, per caso, mentre stavamo passeggiando per la cittadina, solo circa 200 metri dalla Piazza centrale, avevamo scoperto una vista incredibile e surreale, i fiumicini di acqua termale, che scorrevano in mezzo le antiche ruine!!  La gente si era raccolta in questo posto baciato dal sole per godersi la bellissima vista, mentre stava seduta con i piedi a bagno nelle calde acque termali. Il paesaggio era bellissimo e tutto sembrava magico e felice!!

In the evening, we went to the SPA in ‘Albergo le Terme’ www.albergoleterme.it open late until mid-night!! It was a fun day of discovery and relaxation!
  La sera ovviamente eravamo andati alle terme vere di ‘Albergo le Terme’ www.albergoleterme.it, che resta aperto fino alla mezzanotte!!  Avevamo passato una giornata molto interessante e divertente!
