The last day of our week-end we decided to spend in Siena! I have heard a lot about Siena and its traditional Palio Horse Race, continued since 1644, http://www.ilpalio.org/palioenglish.htm in Piazza del Campo!
Nell'ultimo giorno avevamo deciso di visitare Siena! Avevo sentito molto di questa città e del suo tradizionale Palio Sienese, originato in lontano 1644 e che continua fino d oggi in Piazza del Campo! www.ilpalio.org
However, the true surprise of this trip was Duomo di Siena, probably the most spectacular Cathedral that I have ever seen! It's world famous marble flooring is open only for few months in a year, in order to preserve the original splendor achieved over centuries of craftsmanship (from 300's to 800's).

Hidden inside is another marvel, the Piccolomini Library, commissioned in 1502 by the patron Cardinal Francesco Tedeschini Piccolomini (nephew of humanist pope Pius II of Pienza) to an Umbrian artist, Bernardino di Betto, known as Pinturicchio, who was entrusted with decorating the library. The fully painted room, outlined in gold, decorated with classical statues, Arabic motives flooring and giant wooden displays with ancient books, originally intended to contain Pope's patrimony of books, along with the codices that belonged to Tedeschini. http://www.operaduomo.siena.it/eng/libreria.htm. All together, create an atmosphere of majesty, that takes your breath away and suffocates you with exstatic admiration, gets you lost in the wonder, and steals your entire being, because all you can think of, is that if you leave this place, you will never see, anything like it again! Un'altra meraviglia nascosta dentro la Cattedrale è la Biblioteca Piccolomini, comissionata in 1502 dal Cardinale Francesco Tedeschini Piccolomini (nipote del Papa Pio II, Enea Silvio Piccolomini di Pienza) all'artista umbro Bernardino di Betta, conosciuto come Pinturicchio. La magnifica stanza completamente dipinta e delineata in oro, decorata con le statue classiche, pavimento con motivi Arabi e appoggi in legno massiccio per i giganteschi libri antichi, era pensata per contenere testi Papali e quelli di Tedeschini. http://www.operaduomo.siena.it/museo.htm Lo splendore dell'atmosfera creata da tutto questo ti toglie il fiato, ti soffoca con un'ammirazione estasiante, perde il tuo essere nelle meraviglie del decor e ti riempie di paura, che quando esci, non vedrai mai più uno spettacolo altrettanto mejestoso. Cosi, rimani li, insaziabile, a guardare quella meraviglia, perdendo il senso del tempo o mondo al di fuori. When visiting Siena, make sure you get your OPA pass, it is sold in the ticket-booth in Piazza Duomo and it includes a full site-seeing package for €12 (the Cathedral, the Crypt, the Baptistery and the Museo dell'Opera and the panoramic view). http://www.operaduomo.siena.it/eng/opa_si_pass.htm
I would recommend to start your tour with the Cathedral, the Crypt http://www.operaduomo.siena.it/eng/cripta.htm, the Baptistery of San Giovanni http://www.operaduomo.siena.it/eng/battistero.htm and then proceed to the Museum and the panoramic-view (there are quite a bit of stairs to climb to the view, so make sure you are not too tired to see the rest)!! http://www.operaduomo.siena.it/eng/panorama.htm
I am still a bit mad at my boyfriend for complaining about being tired during our art tour (I love art), but after-all he was the one who took me on this fantastic weekend, so I cannot be too grumpy! ;)) Kisses and until the next one!! xoxo

Personalmente consiglierei di cominciare con la Cattedrale, Cripta http://www.operaduomo.siena.it/cripta.htm ed il Battistero di San Giovanni http://www.operaduomo.siena.it/battistero.htm , lasciando il Museo http://www.operaduomo.siena.it/museo.htm e la vista panoramica del Facciatone http://www.operaduomo.siena.it/panorama.htm , che richiede di scallare un bel pò di scallini e finisce per lasciarvi scanchi per l'ultimi!
Sono ancora un pò arrabbiata con mio ragazzo, per essersi lamentato di essere stanco durante il nostro tour artistico (io adoro l’arte), ma dopotutto è lui che mi ha portato in questo fantastico weekened, quindi non posso prendermela troppo! ;)) Baci e alla prossima!! xoxo
