Ever since I saw the Woody
Allen's movie 'Vicky, Cristina, Barcelona' (one of my fav movies
ever), it became an almost obsession of mine to visit Barcelona!!
When
I finally did it, I had to admit that it was everything I expected, and
more, a simply fantastic city! The food is great, international and
not expensive! The climate is nice any time of the year, but do bring a
hat and gloves, if you are travelling during the colder months, they
will protect you from wind. The art and creativity are soo unique and
unexpected, that it only confirmed my love for the Catalonian city!
Believe
me, Barcelona is all to discover! Here is my list of top 10 places
absolutely to see, so do not miss out, pack your baggage and 'bon
voyage'!! ;))
Da quando avevo visto il film 'Vicky,
Cristina, Barcelona' di Woody Allen (one dei miei film preferiti),
visitare Barcelona era diventato un grande desiderio per me!!
Finalmente, l'ho fatto ed era tutto quello che m'aspettavo e molto di più, una citta fantastica!
Il
cibo è buono, internazionale e per niente caro. Il clima è mite, perciò
si può benissimo viaggiare in qualsiasi periodo dell'anno, se decidete
di farlo d'inverno però, portatevi un cappello e guanti per proteggervi
dal vento! L'arte e creattività sono unici e hanno definitivamente
conquistato il mio cuore!
Credetemi Barcelona è tutta da
scoprire! Ecco la mia lista dei 10 posti assolutamente da visitare nella
città Catalana, non perdeteveli, preparate il vostro baggage e 'bon
voyage'!! ;)
1)
La Pedrera or
Casa Mila,
one of Gaudi's greatest works constructed between 1906 and 1910. What
is really interesting is that, even today, it serves as an actual
residential building; imagine those lucky residens, living in a real
work
of art! The
outer structure is very unique and surreal, it almost looks like it was
made out of gigantic sand waves. The inside foyer though, makes you
feel like being in an impressionist's
painting, it's fantastic. Everything can be seen
for FREE plus,
La Pedrera often hosts free art exhibitions (pretty good,
no?)!
1) La Pedrera o Casa Mila,
uno dei più belli lavori di Gaudi, un palazzo residenziale costruito
tra 1906 e 1919, che anche oggi è abitato dai locali, imaginate quei
fortunati, che abitano in un'opera d'arte! La struttura sua esterna è
unica e sembra quasi surreale, come una gigantesto palazzo costruito ad
onde di sabbia. Il foyer interno invece, ti porta in un'altra era
artistica, direttamente dentro un quadro impressionista, è fantastico.
Il sito può essere visitato gratuitamente, in più spessissimo dentro La Pedrera, ci sono varie mostre d'arte sempre gratuite (non male, no?)!
2) Close by, just around the corner, one must see
La Manzana de la Discordia (The Block of Discord), which includes
three very different and fascinating houses:
Casa Bastllò by
Antonio Gaudi (the main attraction),
Casa Amatller by
Joseph Puig i Cadafalch and
Casa Lleò I Morera
by
Lluis Domènech i Montaner. The story tells that three rich neighbouring families, had all hired great architects to compete for the
best looking house on the block; the result was three beautiful, but very
different in style houses, side by side on the same block!
However,
Casa Bastllò, that
personally reminds me of an underwater castle with it's colorful tiles, is what
attracts the most tourists today. The great part is that inside is, as
fabulous, as inside is and can be visited as a museum (bring your student or university card for a discount ;)).

2) Vicinisimo, proprio dietro l'angolo, è da non perdere La Manzana de la Discordia (il Blocco della Discordia), che includes tre case bellissime, ma molto differenti fra loro: Casa Bastllò di Antonio Gaudi (l'attrazione principale), Casa Amatller di Joseph Puig i Cadafalch e Casa Lleò I Morera di Lluis Domènech i Montaner.
La storia dice che tre famiglie ricche avevano assunto tre famosi
architetti per costruirsi la miglior casa del vicinato, il risultato
erano le tre case molto belle, ma in stili troppo diversi fra loro in
fila sullo stesso blocco!
In ogni caso, è la Casa Bastllò,
che personalmente mi ricorda un castello sottomarino con tutte le sue
piastrelle colorate, quella che oggi attrae più turisti. Il suo interno
oggi è un museo, che può essere visitato ed ammirato (porta il tuo
badge studentesco per entrare con biglietto ridotto ;)). www.casabatllo.cat
3) It's my ultimately favourite place in Barcelona, the
Parc Guell. This
park was commissioned to Gaudi by Count Guell and constructed at the
beginning of XX century. The architect himself lived in one of the
houses, the Show Home today, that hosts
Gaudi Museum House.
The entire place is magically surreal, it flows in a perfect harmony with nature, but being there is
like entering a fantastic world of sand castles and distorted alleys covered
with white sea-shells or colorful little tiles. Everything has been
curated in minimal details and it's simply out of this world! The park was
officially declared a National Monument in 1969 and since 1984, it has
been a World Heritage site protected by UNESCO. The visit is FREE.
3) Il mio posto preferito in tutta Barcelona è sicuramente il Parc Guell. Questo
parco era commissionato a Gaudi da Conte Guell e costruito all'inizio
del XX sec. L'architetto stesso aveva vissuto in una delle casine del
parco, che oggi ospita il museo Gaudi Museum House.
L'intero
posto è magicamente surreale, fluisce con i suoi castelli di
sabbia ricoperti in tantissime bricciole di piastrelle colorate ed
allee distorte, che si sviluppano in perfetta armonia con la natura.
Trovarsi li è come entrare in un mondo fantastico, creato da uomo e
curato in minimi dettagli, per portarti in un'altra dimensione
artistica! Il parco è stato ufficialmente dichiarato un monumento
storico in 1969 e dal 1984 fa parte del patrimonio di UNESCO. La visita è
gratuita.
4) La Sagrada Familia, the greatest and most famous, unfinished Cathedral of Gaudi!
He totally devoted himself to this project, all the way up to his death,
but was only able to construct a small part of it: the apes and the
facade of the nativity (surely the most beautiful part and in perfect harmony with gothic liberty style). The rest
of the facades of the opera is still under construction (apperently it has been for
years), but it cannot even loosely compare to the craftmanship and
enourmous attention to detail that Gaudi expressed in his work.
4) Il più grandioso e famoso, ma mai finito lavoro di Gaudi è sicuramente, La Sagrada Familia. L'artista
aveva dedicato all'opera gli ultimi anni della sua vita, ma ha solo
finito una parte della Cattedrale quella con la bellissima scena di
Natività (sicuramente la parte più elaborata in perfetta armonia con
stile gotico e liberty). Le altre facciate della struttura sono ancora
sotto la construzione (apparentemente lo sono da anni), ma la differenza
tra il dettagliato e meticoloso lavoro di Gaudi e le facciate aggiunte
più recentemente è notevole!

Fundaciò Mirò is
a museum for all the modern art lovers like me!! It hosts a
great collection of artworks by Joàn Mirò, who was one of the most
influential artists of the XX century. He was born in
Barcelona, but he also lived in Paris and Majorca. Joan's paintings
are mainly in primary colours, very bright, abstract and almost
elementary, which makes them simply beautiful and unique!

What I love the most about this artist is his phylosophy; Mirò created
for the people, because he believed in decorating the world and
integrating art into living spaces like parks, gardens and buildings,
isn't it beautiful?! As a result, his works today can be found and
enjoyed all over the public places in Spain.
5) Fundaciò Mirò è un museo per gli amanti d'arte come me!! Qua si può vedere una grande collezione di Joan Mirò, che era uno dei artisti più influenti del XX secolo. www.fundaciomiro-bcn.org Mirò era nato a Barcelona, ma ha anche abitato a Parigi e Majorca. I suoi dipinti sono elementari, astratti, molto moderni e brillanti, dato che Joan dipingeva quasi sempre in colori primari sfruttando i forti contrasti e geometrie! La cosa che mi piace più di tutto però è la sua filosofia di vita; lui vedeva l'arte come una parte della nostra vita quotidiana, che deve essere integrata nei luoghi pubblici e vissuta da tutti noi!! Come risultato, oggi possiamo goderci dei suoi lavori in parchi, giardini ed altri posti pubblici in tutta la Spagna, bellissimo no?!

Visit La Barceloneta, traditionally fishermen's residential area and
the
Port Olimpic near by, build in 1992 to host the 25th Olimpic Games. Together it's a nice beach
promenade with little restaurants and caffeès (if you come in colder
months, make sure to bring a hat, as it gets pretty windy on the
beach). There's a giant whale statue made of bronze mosaics and a
beautiful sail shaped hotel for rich and famous!

Durante la visita assicuratevi di fare una passeggiata lungo mare,
godetevi un bella tazza di tea o caffè latte (nei mesi più freddi e non
dimenticatevi il cappello, dato che il vento è freddo) o un pranzo
all'aperto in uno dei tanti ristoratini. Non mancate La Barceloneta, che era il vecchio quartiere dei pescatori e Port Olimpic, costruito in 1992 per ospitare i 25 Giochi Olimpici. Vedrete luccicare al sole una gigante statua di ballena in piastrelle color bronzo ed il lussosissimo hotel a forma di vela per ricchi e famosi!

L'Arc de Triomf (no, I am not confused with Paris, Barcelona has one of its own), situated at the beginning of a tree palm alley and with the
Catalan Parliament Building on one side,
the Castell dels Tres Dragons on the other and a beautiful
Ciutadella's Park
at the back. The site is definately worth your time and it's nice place
to take a relaxing walk, while enjoyoing the shows and the music by
local street artists.
7) L'Arc de Triomf (no non mi sono confusa con Parigi, anche Barcelona ne vanta uno), situato proprio all'inizio della passeggiata in viale con il Palazzo del Parliamento Catalano da una parte ed il Castell dels Tres Dragons dall'altra, contornato dal bellissimo parco Ciutadella,
che riunisce gli artisti locali. Questo sito è definitivamente ne vale
la pena di visitare per una gita rilassante o un pic nic con la musica e
spettacoli dei artisti di strada per far compagnia.

passeggiata di Raval tra gli alberi del quartiere! Ovviamente è l'opera
